Description
With the help of equations of motion of electrons and Maxwell's field equation, an expression for propagation constant has been derived and the propagation characteristics of the electromagnetic wave propagated perpendicular to the maqnetic field have been studied. Using the expression for propagation constant expressions for the attenuation and phase constant for the wave have been obtained. The variation of these constants with the normalized frequency parameter has been computed and plotted. The plots depict the nature of the wave particle interaction around the upper hybrid resonance. It is observed that such resonance is capable of playing an important role in the propagation of electromagnetic waves in the ionosphere as well as in the laboratory plasma. (author)
