The seismo-geological problems concerning the disposal of radioactive wastes of nuclear power plants in China
Description
With the blooming of nuclear power plants construction in China, problems concerning the disposal of radioactive wastes from nuclear power plants are getting more important. Keeping Chinese concrete conditions in mind, the authors discussed the optimum seeking region, plan, host rock as well as some other problems associated with the repositories of solid low-intermediate level radioactive wastes of nuclear power plants in China, such as the most hopeful region for sitting the repositories, the best disposal mode, and the most hopeful host rock. For North China, the most hopeful region is Shanxi province, the best disposal mode is shallow ground burial, the most hopeful host rock is loess. For East China and South China, the regions are Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces respectively, the best disposal mode is storage in waste mines and/or rock cavities, the most hopeful host rock are granite and welded tuff respectively. Problems associated with the sitting, for example, stable massif, seismic activity, rock mass structure, active fault and induced-reservoir earthquake are discussed too
