Remately operated ultrasonic decontamination system for fuel transfer pool

Description
In the previous report, the effectiveness of the ultrasonic decontamination for the fuel transfer pool of nuclear power plants was shown by the results of the field test of a remotely operated ultrasonic decontamination system. In this report, the total system of the ultrasonic decontamination is designed to be intended for practical use considering the way to use and limited factors in a real plant. The improving points of this system are as follows: (1) Rise of decontamination effect by the use of automatic frequency tracking type ultrasonic transducers. (2) Making compact of the decontamination apparatus. (3) Reducing the operator load by the easy and partial automatic operation method. The way to use of the ultrasonic decontamination system and the duration time and manpower needed to the work are investigated. Following effects are expected by putting the system into practical use for the pool of PWR's. (1) Shortening the critical path work duration of the scheduled maintenance work by 1 day. (2) Saving the manpower by 40 to 60 % for the pool wall decontamination work. (3) Improving the working condition. (author)
