PREDICTION OF THE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF Ti-Ni-Cr ALLOY IN PHYSIOLOGICAL SOLUTION

  • 1. F. Tavadze Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science, Tbilisi (Georgia)

Description

The prediction of long-term corrosive behavior of Ti-Ni-Cr alloy was carried out at 37 ℃ in the physiological solution (0.9% NaCl) with application of electrochemical and corrosion tests, spectral chemical analysis and statistical methods of experimental data analysis. The obtained equation of time dependence of the corrosion rate is expressed as C = 0.0038 exp (-0.045τ). The time dependences of corrosion potentiasls and rates and the absence of pitting corrosion allows forecasting the high corrosion resistance of alloy corresponding to the passive state during long-term exposure. The chemical spectral analysis confirmed the calculated and predicted low values of corrosion rates and showed that, during the long-term exposure, the quantity of titanium ions passed into the solution could be neglected.
