Desmoplastic fibroma

Description
WHO defines the desmoplastic fibroma as 'a benign tumour characterized by the new formation of abundant collagenic fibres by tumour cells. The tissue which is rather poor in cells, reveals cells whose nuclei are of an oval or elongated shape. - High cellularity, polymorphisms and frequent occurrence of mitoses characteristic of the fibrosarcoma, are not present in the fibroma'. This desmoplastic fibroma is juxtaposed to the 'periosteal desmoid' as a tumour of identical structure. The tumorous change spreads by local infiltration, tends to relapse but does metastasize. Abstract (German)
Das desmoplatische Fibrom stellt nach der WHO-Definition 'einen gutartigen Tumor dar, der durch die Neubildung von reichlich kollagenen Fasern durch Tumorzellen charakterisiert ist. Im recht zellarmen Gewebe liegen Zellen mit ovalen oder elongierten Zellkernen vor. - Hohe Zellularitaet, Polymorphien und gehaeuftes Auftreten von Mitosen, wie sie charakteristisch fuer das Fibrosarkom sind, fehlen bei dem Fibrom'. Diesem desmoplatischen Fibrom ist als identisch aufgebauter Tumor das 'periostale Desmoid' an die Seite zu stellen. Die tumoroese Veraenderung breitet sich lokal infiltrierend aus, sie neigt zu Rezidiven, fuehrt aber nicht zu Metastasen. (orig.)Additional details
