Charged particle detection by means of a drift magnetic separator

Description
Experimental development and realization of a device for detecting electrons and positrons with the energies from ∼ 0.1 to 4 MeV are reported and the results of investigation into its characteristics are presented. The device is developed for the experimental studying the processes of electron - positron pair production in laser plasma. Scintillation detector, comprising a scintillator a light pipe and two photoelectron multipliers and charged particle source are placed on the opposite points of a transport device-drift magnetic separator (DMS). DMS is a hollow curved coaxial line, electrically closed at the point where the detector is placed. When the current passes through the coaxial line, magnetic field, transporting charged particles, of a certain sign emitted by the source, to the detector, is created between the external and the internal conductors of the line. Oppositely charged particles drift in the reverse direction which prevents them from coming to the scintillator. The device operates in a pulsed regime
