Description
Objective: To summarize the experience of using Onyx-18 embolization for the treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations. Methods: Interventional embolization with Onyx-18 was carried out in 28 patients with cranial arteriovenous malformations. The clinical data and the therapeutic results were analyzed. The complications were observed. Results: Of the 28 patients, the embolization degree of vascular malformations > 80% was achieved in 4 (total occlusion was obtained in 2 cases), 50%-80% in 20, and < 50% in 4. During or after the procedure five patients developed complications, including intracranial hemorrhage (n = 3), clay pipe (n = 1) and secondary epilepsy (n = 1). Conclusion: Onyx-18 is an ideal embolization material for the treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations. To avoid the occurrence of complications the manipulative experience and skills are essentially required. (authors)
