Characteristics of the detection system of the Orsay Synchrocyclotron achromatic channel: study and determination

Once the multiwire proportional chamber working principle studied it is shown that the avalanche must not necessary surround the anode wire. Geometrical characteristics of the MWPC used behind the 'Montpellier' spectrometer of the IPN synchrocyclotron, are determined from an evaluation of the induced charges on the cathode and anode wires

Abstract (French)

Apres une etude du principe de fonctionnement d'une chambre multifils a lecture sur la cathode, on montre qu'il n'est pas necessaire que l'avalanche produite par la particule a detecter entoure le fil anode. Une evaluation theorique de la repartition des charges induites par l'avalanche permet de determiner les caracteristiques geometriques des chambres a fils utilisees derriere le spectrometre 'Montpellier' du synchrocyclotron de l'IPN conduisant a la meilleure resolution
