Description

The theory of operation, design, construction and evaluation of a prototype isotope separator using a quadrupole mass filter is described. The enrichment of 26Mg has been demonstrated and the performance has been found to be consistent with the specifications required of a commercial unit. The use of a glass envelope for the vacuum system has permitted the direct observation of the characteristics of the ion beam within the mass filter. (orig.)
