Infrared variability of the x-ray binary A0535+262

Description

Observations of the x-ray binary A0535+262 with the 2.6-m Byurakan reflector during 1981--1982 reveal a strong infrared variability on time scales ranging from tens of minutes to several days, possibly accompanied by regular infrared variations having the same 104/sup s/ period as the rotation of the neutron star in this system. Significant support is provided for the hypothesis that infrared emission is being generated close to the accreting neutron star. The radiation might be of maser origin
