Design of a pressurized water breeder reactor

Description
The US-DOE has established a program for improving LWR's operating in open cycle without reprocessing the depleted fuel. The main intention of this program was to increase the efficiency of uranium utilization. This program is divided into several subprograms including also the development of an experimental pressurized water breeder reactor (LWBR) with uranium/thorium fuel. (orig.)

Das USA-Energieministerium hat ein Programm zur Verbesserung der LWR-Reaktoren aufgestellt, die im offenen Kreislauf ohne Verarbeitung des erschoepften Brennstoffes fahren. Hauptziel des Programms war es, die Effizienz der Uranverwertung zu steigern. Dieses Programm wird in mehrere Unterprogramme gegliedert, zu denen auch die Entwicklung eines Druckwasser-Versuchsbrutreaktors mit Uran/Thoriumbrennstoff (LWBR) gehoert. (orig.)Additional details
