Excited electronic states after the 57Co(EC)57Fe nuclear decay

Description

By means of the Moessbauer effect on 57Fe the authors have studied the relaxation mechanism of the highly-excited complex [Fe(phen)3]2+. They have obtained the initial populations of the two excited high-spin states and the low-spin ground state of the Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions at 10 K, 40 K, and 80 K which were populated in the EC decay of 57Co.
