Description

An analysis is performed to determine the flow resistance parameter of the UMCP (University of Maryland at College Park) model reactor operating in the natural circulation mode. The analysis includes both the absence and the presence of the prototype primary pump with locked rotor. The intention of this analysis is to determine the amount of additional resistance required to satisfy the scaling criteria under steady-state, single-phase, and symmetric operational condition. This analysis indicates that a thin-plate orifice, 2 inches in diameter installed in each one of the four cold legs matches the resistance of the prototype locked-rotor pump, at the design flow rate
