Development of an S-band photocathode RK gun

Description

We present the progress made in the design and development of the photocathode RF gun. Detailed RF simulations were performed to fix the mechanical engineering design of the gun following which a prototype was fabricated and cold-tested. Beam dynamics studies of the structure show that a beam of charge 1 nC in 10 ps bunches, having a normalized transverse emittance of 1 π mm mrad, can be obtained with a field gradient in the gun of the order of 50-60 MV/m.
