A Study of Regulatory Guidelines for Cyber Security in Nuclear Facilities

  • 1. Korea Institute of Nuclear Non-proliferation and Control (KINAC), Daejeon City (Korea, Republic of)

Description

Because of increasing cyber threats, the cyber security at nuclear facilities is of great significance. Therefore, digital computers, communication systems and networks related to safety and security should be protected. In response to potential cyber threats, the IAEA published the Nuclear Security Series regarding cyber security. The publication suggested that each country should establish a cyber security framework at its nuclear facilities. This paper analyzed the efforts of the Korean Nuclear Security Regulatory body in establishing a cyber security framework; and suggests technical methodology in order to make regulations in accordance with IAEA cyber security guidelines. The contents of this paper could be used as a reference for domestic licensees to establish and implement their own cyber security program at nuclear facilities. (author)
