Optimization of radiation protection in nuclear power

Description

The principle is discussed of the optimization of radiation protection and a cost-benefit analysis is made comparing the costs required in different protection methods for a unit reduction in the population dose (expressed in terms of the money equivalent of the population dose unit) and allowing to select the optimum variant of the protection of workers and population using the means allocated for protection. The respective ICRP recommendations are discussed and first experiences are outlined with the practical verification thereof in Czechoslovakia and abroad with a view to the possible application of the optimization principle in the construction of nuclear facilities in the CSSR.
