Determination of impurities in nuclear materials using ion selective electrodes
Description
Ion-selective electrodes (ISE's) have been found to be rapid, convenient and reliable for the determination of certain trace level impurities in nuclear materials. Typically, fluoride, chloride and nitrogen can be determined in nuclear grade uranium oxide and chloride and nitrogen in zirconium sponge and zircaloy. A sensitivity of 10 ppm is obtained and the co-efficient of variation ranges from 0.5 to 5 per cent on six replicates of uranium and zirconium samples in the different concentration range of impurities determined.
