The use of 232Th in nuclear reactors
Description
The design and construction of nuclear reactors containing 232Th is considered and conclusions and recommendations are formulated. These are based on general physical considerations and the results of numerical calculations of many different fuel-moderator assemblies. The main purpose of the design of Th- containing reactors is to make it possible to create at each moment in time, a neutron spectrum shape which ensures the maximum 233U breeding rate under the conditions of criticality.
