Description

Recent evaluations of the ratio ΓZ/ΓW in panti p collider experiments place new limits on the possible masses of new quarks and the existence of majorons. If only neutrinos can contribute beyond the third generation, then mt > 62 GeV implies Nv ≤ 4 neutrino species. If majorons exist and there are no charged scalars below MW, then Nv = 3 and mt < 62 GeV. Contributions from fourth-generation charge -1/3 quarks v and charged leptons L alter the ratio ΓZ/ΓW in opposite directions; a range of situations are possible in which either v or L or both are present with masses down to 24 GeV.
