Effect of diluent in the collection of recoil sup(82m)Br atoms
Description
After the discovery of a new isomer of bromine (viz., sup(82m)Br, t approximately 6.2 min.) by Emery and Anders in 1965, 'Charged Plate Technique' has been applied successfully for the determination of this new isomer sup(82m)Br produced under (n,γ) process. Further, the effect of diluent, i.e. aniline, in the collection of recoiled sup(82m)Br isomer has been studied. The targets, irradiated by a Ra-Be neutron-source of 300 mc for five minutes, were bromobenzene and bromoform. The diluent is added in the targets according to its mole fractions. An electric field of 1050 volts was applied to the Ag/AgBr electrodes during the whole period of irradiation. The radioactivities collected on the electrodes were counted by thin end window β, γ G.M. Counter and the time-decay analysis established that as the volume of the diluent was increased, the characteristics values theta, i.e. the fraction of the products was decreased. (author)
