Decomposition of yttria-alumina silicates in highly reducing atmospheres
Description
The formation of bubbles in yttria-alumina silicate melts by gaseous decomposition products at ambient pressures greater than one atmosphere has been observed at temperatures as low as 15300C. Direct decomposition of the oxides under these conditions will not yield vapor pressures above one atmosphere, but the bubbles are explainable considering convective transfer to transient nitride phases through the melt
