The proton structure function F2 at low Q2 and low X

  • 1. Argonne National Lab., IL (United States)

Description

The recent measurements of the proton structure function F2 made by the Hi and ZEUS collaborations span six orders of magnitude both in the virtuality of the photon, Q2, and in the Bjorken scaling variable, x. The data exhibit a clear transition from the (approximate) scaling behavior of F2 to a much stronger Q2-dependence at low Q2. In order to further elucidate this transition, a study is made of the behavior of the derivatives, θF2/θ log Q2, evaluated for fixed x. (author)
