Description

High resolution measurements of 230Th and 232Th fission cross sections for neutrons exhibit a fine structure. Such a structure is interpreted as a superposition of two rotational bands in the third, asymmetric, well of the fission barrier. The fragment mass distribution in the thermal fission of 235U and 233U does not show any even-odd effect, even at the highest kinetic energies. This is the mark of a strong viscosity in the descent from saddle point to scission point

Abstract (French)

Les mesures a haute resolution des sections efficaces de fission de 230Th et 232Th pour des neutrons font apparaitre une structure fine. Celle-ci est interpretee comme la superposition de deux bandes de rotation dans le troisieme puits, asymetrique, de la barriere de fission. La distribution des masses des fragments dans la fission thermique de 235U et 233U ne montre pas d'effet pair-impair, meme aux energies cinetiques les plus elevees. Ceci est la marque d'une viscosite importante dans la descente du point selle au point de scission
