Newly developed Ni-Cr-W alloy for the heat exchanger of a high temperature gas-cooled reactor
Description
To develop the alloy used for the heat exchanger of a high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) which is operated at nearly 1,0000C, the microstructure and high temperature properties of Ni-Cr-W-Mo alloys were investigated. An α-W strengthened Ni-16Cr-26W-Nb-Zr alloy was then developed. This alloy can be fabricated into heat exchanger tube and has an excellent creep rupture strength of more than 1 kgf/mm2 at 1,0000C 50,000 hr in He, good structural stability and appropriate welding properties. This alloy was selected as one of the best candidates for heat exchanger applications with HTGR in the national project of Japan. (author)
