Preparation of double salt of hafnium and potassium from sulfate solutions

  • 1. Moskovskij Inst. Stali i Splavov (USSR)

Description

The base double hafnium- and potassium sulfate K2SO4xHf(OH)2SO4xH2O has been systhesized from disulfatohafnium acid at 90 deg C. To eliminate impurities from the salt it was washed with a mixture of acetone and sulphuric acid taken in the 10:1 ratio. To prepare a standard product as regards iron- and titanium impurities, the following regime was chosen: HfO2 concentration=200-250 g/l; Lsub(s)=2.3-2.5; KCl:HFO2 molar ratio =2.5-3. Pyrolysis of the salt at 660-1100 deg C resulted in production K2SO4 and HFO2
