Shockley surface states on (110) face of molybdenum
Description
Reasons are given why Shockley surface states (SS) can approximate localized electronic states on transition metal surfaces. It is argued that their theory can be carried out along two independent lines, namely the qualitative and quantitative one. Some results of an SS calculation of the (110) face of molybdenum are reported and compared with experiment. Qualitative conclusions are drawn from similar calculations of bcc transition metals. Possible role of SS in several surface effects is suggested. (Auth.)
