Photons and diphotons from E706

Description
We report on recent work concerning the phenomenology of initial-state parton-kT effects in direct-photon production and related processes in hadron collisions. High-mass direct-γ and π0 pairs are used to explore the impact of parton-kT. We present comparisons of a phenomenological kT model to recent fixed-target and collider inclusive data. Our approach provides a consistent prescription for correcting observed deviations of NLO pQCD calculations from inclusive direct-γ and π0 data. We also comment on the implications of these results for the extraction of the gluon distribution, G(x)
