Rock magnetism studies in cenozoic sections of Uruguay

  • 1. Facultad de Ciencias, Instituto de Geologia y Paleontologia, Departamento de Geologia, area Geofisica-geotectonica, Montevideo(Uruguay)

Description

A study of the magnetic mineralogy of two Quaternary sections located at Canelones Department,Uruguay, was carried out. Both sites studied, San Luis and El Aguila, show approximately four metres thick loess-paleosol and fluvial sequences. The El Aguila sequence was characterised by two palaeosols interbedded with on loess layer, and The san Luis sequence by only loess and fluvial layers at the bottom. The results of magnetic, determination suggest a titanomagnetite and magnetite magnetic mineralogy andf PSD particle size
