Supervisory control of a wind park
Description
The paper shows the results gained from the simulation of a small wind park using a supervisory controller. It includes the model of a two-dimensional wind field, the rotor with steady state aerodynamic characteristics and a simplified model of the mechanical and the generator system. Variable speed generators with torque control reference inputs are mandatory for this operation. Further improvement is gained from additional wind speed information fed forward to the control system. These signals can either be used to smooth variations of power output or to reduce dynamic energy losses due to nonoptimal rotor/wind speed ratio. Maximum energy capture and minimum power fluctuations are found to be contradictory goals. Depending on the control scheme, either short term power variations can be significantly reduced, or the energy capture can be increased by up to 5% at low wind speeds. (orig.)
