Super-Jonas, a new installation for wastage and steam-liquid sodium reactive jets studies

  • 1. Universite de Poitiers, Laboratoire de Chimie Physique de la Combustion Domaine du Deffend, Mignaloux Beauvoir, 86800 St Julien l'Ars (France)

Description

The Super Jonas facility installed on the Grignotin test loop at the Cadarache Nuclear Research Center is used to complete the tests conducted at the University of Poitiers on the Jonas facility. It is designed to investigate wastage of various target materials (primarily Incology 800) and to examine the liquid sodium-steam reaction jets (notably the temperature profile under well defined conditions: sodium temperatures ranging from 300 to 5000C, steam injection temperatures of 300-5000C and pressures of 10-180 bars. The initial tests demonstrated the feasibility of the test facility and confirmed that a large number of experimental values can be recorded in a single experiment. The limited results obtained to date confirm earlier findings from Jonas, and are qualitively similar to the Jar test results
