Solid state blanket breeding materials for controlled thermonuclear reactor. Present status of research on Li2O

Description
Lithium oxide (Li2O) has been selected as a solid state blanket breeding material with the helium coolant in a conceptional design of a controlled thermonuclear reactor in JAERI. In this light, a whole range of properties about Li2O compacts, including under the operating conditions, has been studied using a variety of experimental techniques in JAERI. This article deals with the present status of the research about Li2O compacts. Following the brief description of the blanket performances, preparation methods of sintered pellets, physical and physico-chemical properties, compatibilities with metals and alloys, and irradiation behaviors of Li2O are presented. 核融合炉ブランケットの新しい設計構想の一つとして、最近He冷却-固体ブランケット方式が提案され、国際的に関心が高まりつつある。原研のD-Tトカマク炉の概念設計では、He冷却-固体ブランケット方式が採用され、固体ブランケット材料、すなわちトリチウム(T)親物質として酸化リチウム(Li2O)が選定されている(3)。それ以来、Li2Oに関して、ベレットの製造から、高温物性、金属材料との両立性、T放出などの照射挙動に及ぶ一連の広範囲な研究開発が進められている。研究はまだ緒についたばかりで今後の成果に待つところが多いが、以下に研究開始以来約3年間で得られた研究成果を中心にして、Li2Oに関する研究の現況および今後の問題点について述べる。 (著者)Additional details
