Study on the absorption of heavy metal ions Cu2+ and Zn2+ of copolyme – diatomite prepared by gamma ray irradiation

  • 1. Centre for Applications of Nuclear Technique in Industry, Dalat, Lamdong (Viet Nam)

Description

Copolyme – diatomite consisting of CMC (Sodium Caboxymethyl Cellulose), AAc (Acrylic Acid) and diatomite was prepared by using gamma irradiation method. The gel fraction yield was studied by increasing dose. The gel fraction was reached to 90,25% at the absorbed dose of 20 kGy. Characteristics of product were determined by scaning electron microscopse (SEM). The factors affecting the metal uptake such as pH, time, and initial metal concentration were investigated. According to the Langmuir isotherm model, the maximum adsorption capacities of copolyme – diatomite for Cu2+ and Zn2+ were 192,31 mg/g and 151,52 mg/g, respectively. (author)
