CT in diseases of the temporal bone
Description
Magnification CT of the temporal bone was evaluated. Normally, axial CT and coronal CT revealed the external auditory canal, tympanum, auditory ossicles, mastoid cells, cochlea, vestibule, semicircular canal, and internal auditory meatus. Saggital CT showed the facial canal. Usefulness of CT in diagnosing stenosis of the auditory canal with false pearl tumor or malformation of the middle ear, acoustic tumor, and carcinoma of the middle ear was shown. As regards CT of the temporal bone, its merits and demerits, and exposure dose were discussed. (Ueda, J.)
