Activities and present status of participating projects in the OECD/NEA decommissioning co-operative program (contract research)

A number of decommissioning projects with regards to nuclear facilities constructed in the early days of nuclear technology developments are in progress in the world. Decommissioning nuclear facilities is therefore one of the important issues. A Co-operative Program for the Exchange of Scientific and Technical Information Concerning Nuclear Installation Decommissioning Project was agreed September, 1985, and the cooperation among the partitioning countries continued so far. It has played an important role for information exchange on decommissioning under participating 12 countries. The participating projects are categorized into nuclear power stations, reprocessing facilities and nuclear fuel/radioactive material handling facilities with different levels from test facilities to commercial nuclear power plants. In separate from the information exchange within the participating projects, task groups on decommissioning costs, reuse and unrestricted release of wastes and decontamination techniques were organized in the program. The task groups on decommissioning costs and reuse and unrestricted release of wastes were actively studied to be published their results by completing their initial aims. This report described the major activities of the participating projects and activities of task groups based on the Technical Advisory Group Meeting in this co-operative program as of October 1999.
