Effect of hydroextrusion on the armco-iron and U-8 steel structure and properties

  • 1. AN SSSR, Sverdlovsk. Inst. Fiziki Metallov

Description

It is shown that hydroextrusion of Armco iron greatly improves its mechanical properties; namely, its ultimate strength, yield limit, and impact toughness increase simultaneously. Hydroextrusion slightly decreases the plasticity characteristics, but their level remains sufficiently high. The retention of the hydroextrusion effects is associated with the cellular structure characteristic of hydroextrusion and inherited by the austenite to some extent, and also with a change in the morphology of the post-hardening martensite. The integrated effect of hydroextrusion and heat treatment produces favourable combinations of strength and plasticity characteristics with a high uniformity of properties
