The Li2O-Al2O3-B2O3 system

Description
Results of studying the ternary system Li2O-Al2O3-B2O3 using the methods of DTA, RPA and IR spectroscopy are presented. The formation of five new borates in the system: 3Li2OxAl2O3x2B2O3; 2Li2OxAl2O3x2B2O3, Li2OxAl2O3xB2O3; Li2OxAl2O3x2B2O3 and Li2Ox2Al2O3x2B2O3 is established, their melting points being equal to 730, 785, 760, 850 and 775 deg C, respectively. Certain characteristics of the compounds are studied and the boron coordination number in them is determined. Projection of the liquidus surface is plotted and triangulation of the ternary system is performed
