Early GRB Afterglow Rebrightenings from Ring-Shaped Jets

Description
When a gamma-ray burst (GRB) jet does not coincide with the spin axis of the center engine, it may be a ring-shaped jet. Unlike a conical jet, the outflow of a ring-shaped jet is not a full cone, but a centrally hollowed ring. Assuming the line of sight is on the central symmetry axis of the hollow cone, early rebrightenings at a post-burst time of 102-104 s will be present in the afterglows. We show that the early rebrightenings observed in the afterglows of a few Swift GRBs can be well explained by this model.
