Determination of sink intensity of side shoots by the use of radioactive substances

Description
The influence of side shoots in the source-sink system of tomato plants was demonstrated by following the translocation of 32P and 14C applied to different leaves. The results showed that the side shoots were important sinks for photosynthetic products until the growing fruits of adjoining inflorescences became predominant attraction centres. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Um den Einfluss der Seitensprosse in dem 'source-sink'-System bei der Tomate kennenzulernen, wurden verschiedene Blaetter mit radioaktivem 32P bzw. 14C belegt. Die Ergebnisse lassen erkennen, dass Seitensprosse solange als bedeutendes 'sink' fuer Photosyntheseprodukte bestehen, bis die Fruechte in den einzelnen Bluetenstaenden durch einen starken Massezuwachs das Uebergewicht erlangen.
