Metastable fcc-intermetallics. Theory and observation

Description

The state of aggregate of a substance produced in the course of ageing or low-temperature annealing of metallic glass, having the same composition as an intermetallic compound (i.e. in processes followed by elimination of a short-term positional order with conservation of short-term compositional and topological orders) is considered. A tendency to forming f.c.c. crystals, even if the f.c.c. phase of the substance considered is metastable (rather than absolutely stable), is theoretically established. A tendency to forming f.c.c. crystals on deformed titanium nickelide irradiated by Cr3+ ions (3 MeV) at room temperature, in which the given types of processing induce intense dispersion and amorphisation, is experimentally discovered
