Torus type thermonuclear device

Description

Purpose: To protect superconductive toroidal coils causing abnormal phenomenon of suddenly losing super-conductivity (quenching). Constitution: If quenching should occur in one of a plurality of superconductive toroidal magnetic field coils in a torus type thermonuclear device, electrical current in the coils is forcively decreased. At the same time, the electrical current for every another superconductive toroidal coils from the above-mentioned coils are also decreased forcively. In this way, since the excitation symmetricity is not lost between each of the superconductive toroidal coils arranged in plurality in a toroidal configuration even upon quenching protection, no electromagnetic forces are exerted on the coils. Further, since one-half for all of the superconductive toroidal magnetic field coils are excited as they are, the energy consumed in the energy absorption device can be decreased. (Kamimura, M.)
