Possibility of using small CT specimens for the determination of J resistance curve of pressure vessel steels

Description

The tests have been conducted with two steels of different toughnesses and in irradiated and unirradiated condition, at different temperatures. The purpose of this paper is to compare tests conducted with 1 TCT (25 mm) and 0.5 TCT (12.5 mm) specimens. Partial unloading compliance techniques was employed. There is a good agreement between the tests with the two size of specimens but with a relatively great scatter, temperature has the same influence on the two specimen size. The use of 0.5 TCT specimens seems possible for determining elastoplastic toughness in surveillance program
