3D AMR Simulations of Tidal Dwarf Galaxies

Full text: We investigate the formation and evolution of tidal dwarf galaxies as self-gravitating objects that arise in the tidal arms of interacting galaxies. We study the 3-D chemo dynamical evolution of dark matter free, low-mass galaxies and focus on their stability against both intrinsic processes as star formation and stellar feedback as well as the external tidal field produced by the host galaxy. We compare our simulations, which are performed with the hydrodynamical, adaptive mesh refinement code FLASH (Version 3.2), with the results of Recchi et al. (2007), who run a series of chemo dynamical 2-D simulations in cylindrical coordinates. (author)
