Development of D-D neutron generator

  • 1. Department of Nuclear Engineering, Seoul National University, Seoul 151-742 (Korea, Republic of)

Description

A D-D neutron generator with intensity of 108 n/s is being developed at Seoul National University. A prototype device of 105 n/s was constructed. It is composed of a helicon plasma ion source, Ti target and neutron yield measurement system. Deuteron beam was extracted from the ion source with energy of 15 keV and accelerated to 44.4 keV by the negatively biased target held at -29.4 kV. The beam current was approximately 40 μA at the target position. Neutron yield was determined by measuring protons from D(d,p)T reaction. Yield variation according to deuteron beam fluence was observed and the result is discussed
