Atmospheric pathway dosimetry report, 1944-1992
Description
The purpose of the Hanford Environmental Dose Reconstruction (HEDR) Project is to estimate the radiation dose that individuals could have received as a result of radionuclide emissions since 1944 from the Hanford Site. The HEDR Project is conducted by Battelle, Pacific Northwest Laboratories. This report describes the estimated doses resulting from the release of radionuclides to the atmosphere. Exposures to radioactive materials released to the atmosphere from Hanford may have been from the consumption of food containing radioactivity, inhalation of contaminated air, or direct exposure to radioactivity in soil or air. To estimate doses, it is necessary to estimate the quantity of radioactivity released to the atmosphere, the calculation of atmospheric transport, and the development of models used to simulate the uptake and movement of radionuclides in the environment. This document briefly addresses the approaches used for each of these steps
