Conceptual design of helium inventory control system for primary coolant of RGTT200K

Description

BWR accident in Fukushima is a valuable lesson in planning for nuclear power plant in Indonesia in the future. There are two important events in this case, the first rise in temperature of the cooling water which resulted the melting of fuel, the second cooling water interaction with the cladding of fuel to produce hydrogen gas. Based on the experience, gas cooled reactor could be the alternative of nuclear power plant which be build in Indonesia. RGTT200K is gas-cooled power reactors high temperature 200 MW cogeneration an option to be built. Media RGTT200K primary coolant used in helium gas. The integrity of the structure and components RGTT200K assured by helium inventory control system (HICS). In this paper described the analysis of the conceptual design of chemical control system which is the primary coolant helium HICS component. The purpose of this study to prepare conceptual designs HICS in supporting the development of nuclear energy systems (SEN) in Indonesia. Analyses were performed using the balance sheet method on the main components of chemical control system of helium. From the analysis found that the chemical control system is designed capable of lowering the concentration of helium gas of H2, CO, CH4, CO2, H2O, N2, and O2 of 40 ppmV up to 1 ppmV. Operating system required two units of HEPA filters, oxidizing CuO = 470 kg/day, molecular sieve zeolites of type 5A = 3072 kg/day, and activated carbon adsorber = 1210.8 kg/day. These results are used as the basis in preparing the design HICS. (author)
