Hydrous metal-oxide ion-exchangers for the processing of radioactive liquid wastes

  • 1. Tohoku Univ., Sendai (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

Fundamental studies were made of synthetic hydrous metal oxides such as hydrous titanium(IV) oxide, hydrous tin(IV) oxide, hydrous zirconium(IV) oxide, and hydrous niobium(V) oxide, with a view to elucidating the applicability of the materials for the processing of radioactive liquid wastes. The properties of these materials were studied in the aspects of equilibrium and kinetics; the ion-exchange properties and thermal stabilities, and the sodium isotopic exchange rate between aqueous solutions, and the hydrous tin(IV) oxide and the hydrous niobium(V) oxide.
