Studies show that the exposure of radon daughter products to miners in underground mines causes a fivefold increase in the incidence of lung cancer. To aid the uranium mining industry in complying with the standards enforced to limit exposure to these daughter products, the Bureau of Mines and the Mining Safety and Health Administration have been conducting studies on personal dosimeters to determine the most accurate measurement of working level exposure. This report documents a contract undertaken to develop a commercially available source of a continuous working level detector developed by the Bureau of Mines.
