Enhancement of the number of muon catalysed fusions

Description
The effect that an external electric field has on the motion of the (μα) ions produced in the reaction (dtμ) → (μα) + n is discussed and it is found that appreciable enhancements of the (μα) stripping probability can be achieved for strong fields. It is shown that this effect can be useful for enhancing the number of nuclear fusions which a muon can catalyse in a deuterium-tritium mixture. (U.K.)
