Characterization of the biosorbent for the determination of barium

  • 1. Department of Nuclear Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava, 84215 Bratislava (Slovakia)

Description

In this presentation characterization of the biosorbent for the determination of barium is presented. In the work was prepared and subsequently tested impregnated biosorbent from the wood-cut fungus. The modified biosorbent prepared from the fungi exhibits high selectivity for the tested radionuclide 133Ba in various media with a pH in the range of 4-11. The maximum sorption capacity of the stable Ba2+ carrier, 10 mg Ba2+ per gram of sorbent was determined. The effect of competitive Mg2+, K+ and Na+ ions is not detected which can prevent effective separation across the test area. In the case of competitive Ca2+ cation, sorption yields at a concentration of 1800 mg/cm3 to 88% decreased. (authors)
