Description
Operation of existing inventory of nuclear power plants beyond their current license terms appears to be a certainty. The codes and standards community must respond to the needs of the industry in support of this. To serve this need, the Nuclear Power Engineering Committee of the IEEE initiated its efforts through Working Group 3.4. This paper presents a report of the progress of WG 3.4 since its inception two years ago. In addition, this paper also advances the author's opinion that in reality, PLEX, i.e. plant life extension, means supplementing existing operating and maintenance practices to include a conscious effort manage aging related degradation of the plant systems equipment and structures
